Equally frustrating to an insomniac is how cavalier friends and colleagues can treat your condition. Don&#8217;t get me wrong, most friends care enough to try and help, it&#8217;s just that some of the remedies are borderline comical. Some will recommend that by eating bran muffins every morning you can sleep more soundly. Others will suggest downing a half bottle of Bourbon an hour before sleeping. Both suggestions may mean well, however they are both completely wrong, and while one can help digestion, the other is downright dangerous.</p>
<p>Now there certainly are some insomnia causing psychological disorders that require prescription medications and ongoing cognitive therapy, but these cases are not the norm when it comes to an occasional sleepless night. Most cases of transient insomnia can be treated by making a few small behavioral and environmental changes.</p>
<p>There are a few home remedies that shouldn&#8217;t be laughed off, before at least trying them.<br />
<span id="more-56"></span><br />
Causes for sleepless nights can include;</p>
<ul>
<li>too much caffeine</li>
<li>noisy sleeping environment</li>
<li>bright light (after 6 pm)</li>
<li>melatonin deficiency</li>
<li>unneeded bedroom stimuli</li>
<li>shift work</li>
<li>constant travel</li>
</ul>
<p>In order to get a good night&#8217;s rest, we must set out to remove the items from the list above to facilitate a good night&#8217;s slumber. For example:</p>
<ol>
<li>Avoid drinking too much caffeine after 12:00pm, and be mindful of the caffeine content in certain food and over the counter medicine ingredients. There are items in the grocery store that are known to have &#8211; hidden within the ingredients &#8211; large amounts of caffeine. Be careful to avoid extra strength Panadol or Tylenol, caffeinated sodas, teas, and check your labels on questionable food items.</li>
<li>Be sure to &#8220;soundproof&#8221; the bedroom if at all possible. If you can&#8217;t keep a noisy neighbor quiet or stop a leaky faucet, try some simple, store bought ear plugs. You would be surprised at how well they work to cancel out excess noise and leave you in peace.</li>
<li>If you&#8217;re someone who likes to tan, make sure you get in all your sunshine before 1 pm, and if you use tanning salons, make sure you go for AM appointments only. Too much artificial light will disrupt the pineal gland from producing the proper amount of melatonin for your body, and cause you to lose sleep. This is also true of fluorescent lighting. If possible, limit your exposure to bright lights completely, after 6 pm so your body is signaled to start the process of relaxation.</li>
<li>As I just eluded, taking a melatonin supplement can definitely increase your chances of a good night&#8217;s rest if you suffer from an under-active pineal gland in the brain. When you are constantly bombarded with artificial light your body becomes confused and the circadian rhythm is interrupted &#8211; causing the pineal gland to produce less and less melatonin. This will wreak havoc on your normal sleep/wake cycle, causing bouts of insomnia. A melatonin capsule can help a great deal in cases like these.</li>
<li>In your bedroom you should be only committing 2 activities regularly &#8211; sleeping and having sex. If you have a plasma TV, a computer, or a really great book, it shouldn&#8217;t be in the bedroom. You need the bed to become a source of complete relaxation, not a platform for late night television, last minute emailing, or reading a Steven King horror novel. So get the excess stimuli out of the bedroom and focus on using it as it was originally intended &#8211; sleeping (and having sex of course <img src='http://www.tudorvlasceanu.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> )</li>
<li>Shift work is combated with all of the above measures, with a focus on taking melatonin more regularly. If you work nights, you have to try and trick your sleep/wake cycle to act in reverse, and this can be achieved without a great deal of hassle by taking a melatonin supplement &#8211; 30 minutes before your scheduled sleep. Done repetitiously this will have you sleeping like a baby.</li>
<li>Jetlag is an extremely common reason for acute insomnia. Again, melatonin should be used. It is also a good thing &#8211; when traveling great distances &#8211; to get as much sunlight as possible on your first day of arrival, as this gears your body&#8217;s clock to reset and you will find the jet lag lasts only a day or 2.</li>
</ol>
<p>Lastly, and likely the most obvious, getting proper exercise during the day is of critical importance in every area of your life, and no less important to a good night&#8217;s rest. By getting 30 &#8211; 60 minutes of a strenuous workout into every day, you can almost guarantee a good night&#8217;s sleep once the light is start to dim.</p>

<li>corn on the cob</li>
<li>whole wheat tortillas</li>
<li>Always drink at least 2 liters of water per day, and electrolyte replacements (Gatorade) while working out.</li>
</ul>
<p>Weight training styles will vary slightly between someone trying to bulk up, to the person who only wishes lean muscle gains. This is simply because lean mass is a more targeted and specific goal. You just have to work a little smarter and be more nutritionally conscious in order to ensure lean mass gains. However certain principles do remain the same. For example, in both cases the muscle groups must be worked to failure to achieve optimum success.</p>
<p>One technique that has proven very effective for many people is the &#8220;10 sets of 10 reps&#8221; system, which has been around for quite a while.</p>
<p>Here is a brief example of how a &#8220;10 sets, 10 reps&#8221; system works:</p>
<ol>
<li>Choose a weight that you can successfully lift for 16 to 18 reps.</li>
<li>Do 1 set of only 10 reps using this weight.</li>
<li>Rest for 60 seconds exactly.</li>
<li>Rinse and repeat with the same weight, doing 10 reps, until 10 sets are completed (resting only 1 minute each time)</li>
</ol>
<p>As with any successful weight training program, it is always wise to work out only a few body parts each day, allowing at least 48 hours of rest in between. A good example of this would be as follows:</p>
<ul>
<li>Day 1: Back + shoulders + triceps + chest + biceps</li>
<li>Day 2: Cardio + abs</li>
<li>Day 3: Quads + hamstrings + calves + *abs</li>
<li>Day 4: Cardio only</li>
<li>Day 5: Back + shoulders + triceps + chest + biceps + *calves</li>
<li>Day 6: Cardio + *abs</li>
<li>Day 7: Rest</li>
</ul>
<p>*Since abs and calves are muscles that are already used greatly in daily life, it is sometimes difficult to achieve significant gains. This is why there are extra days scheduled for each. If over-training becomes a concern with your abs or calves, simply drop one workout day for each muscle, maintaining a staggered schedule.</p>
<p>Following this diet and weight training/cardio outline, there is a high probability that within 6 to 8 weeks you will see substantial lean muscle mass gains.</p>

The truth is, your body is an incredible machine with its own built-in &#8220;weight thermostat.&#8221; If you start feeding yourself the right foods and eliminate all the stuff that has been forcing your body to store fat, it will aim to reach its optimal weight and vitality levels EXTREMELY quickly! Think of it like a basketball being held under water. Once you let go of the ball, does it take its sweet time resurfacing? Same with your body resurfacing to a healthy weight.</p>
<p>So a healthy diet can (and should) work fast! The diet you choose should be determined by how much weight you need to lose, how fast, and how much sacrifice you&#8217;re willing to make (and for how long). Here are five healthy diets for you to consider. They have proven themselves fast and effective time and time again. They are listed in order of both speed and intensity, with #1 being the most extreme and #5 being the &#8220;easiest.&#8221;</p>
<p>1. The Master Cleanse (aka the Lemonade Diet) &#8211; This is a 10-40 day fast in which you consume nothing but a saltwater flush, a special lemonade (lemon, water, grade b maple syrup, and cayenne pepper), and laxative tea. You can lose up to 2 pounds a DAY on this diet.</p>

You can undoubtedly enjoy ultra fast weight loss and perhaps even sustain a healthy body weight long-term, provided you&#8217;re willing to adhere to an &#8220;off the beaten path&#8221; type of lifestyle.</p>
<p>3. Veganism &#8211; Love thy animals, but never on thy dinner plate! Veganism, as most of us know, is a 100% animal-free diet. Unfortunately, this doesn&#8217;t necessarily suggest that your diet is healthy, as you could theoretically eat Skittles all day and still be going vegan. <p>4. The Mediterranean Diet &#8211; Do you love crisp, green veggies? How about cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil? Fresh fish? If you follow this extremely healthy diet plan, not only can you lose weight very quickly, but you can expect to enjoy clear and radiant skin, bright eyes, nice hair, and a longer life!</p>
<p>5. The Paleo Diet &#8211; Eat like a caveman! That&#8217;s their motto. This is a very flexible diet that allows you to eat fresh lean meat, fruits and veggies, certain whole grains, and basically anything that can be hunted or harvested in Nature.</p>
<p>These are some of the healthiest diets on the planet. Not coincidentally, they are also among the fastest. If work is too far away to walk, driving to a location near work and walking from there is always an option. Jogging or walking in a park near home is a great way to explore nature.
